Hi guys. Have been working with the head developer for a linux
distribution called Sorcerer Linux.
Kyle's added speakup in to the installation kernel for the system and
included it on the iso image that's used to install the system.
I'd test it out but I won't have a cd burner til tomorrow and am wondering
if there's anyone willing to burn the cd and let me know if you can get it
to speak.
http://sorcerer.wox.org/download is the place to get the image.
The iso is distributed as a bz2 file so you'll need to run it through
bunzip2 before burning to cd.
You should be able to pass the speakup_synth option to the kernel.
linux speakup_synth=synth_name should work.

I would be willing to try it out but I don't have a pc atm that can boot
a cd. Are there installation floppy images made for this distro?

Yes, they do have a boot disk there which is also a bz2 file but I think
it requires a burned copy of the cd to be in the drive.

Heh yeah, adding speakup to more distros is a good thing. The bad part
about this one though is to install you must burn on to cd can't really
modify a floppy or anything like that to get it going.

Actually, you should be able to copy the boot file to a floppy. The method
a CD uses to boot is there must be an image file of a floppy disk. This is
what is actually booted from. Copy the image to a floppy and you can boot
from floppy (though you probably still need the CD available).

HI. tried this one and the default installation kernel wouldn't talk for
me. perhaps the cd I made was broken but don't think so. I think there
might be a screen before the boot prompt though which I wouldn't know about.
will play a little more on the week end and see if I can get it working.
Brian.

One thing I thought of a little while ago. Does speakup 1.00 work with
devfs because that's what this distro uses.

Can someone please repost the URL for downloading the iso image of this newly speakup enabled distro? I seem to have lost it, and I want to check it out. Thanks.

Haven't actually got it to install yet and am not sure why the kernel
won't talk.
though.
Does loadlin have a problem booting kernels that are larger than 1024 k?

Thanks for the URL. Yes, loadlin has a problem booting kernels of 1024 kb. I have a 900k kernel here, which loadlin just refuses to boot, it just locks up.
