Ward @ UTC (permalink / raw) To: speakup Hi, Bill. Thanks for the info. Actually, someone told me it was 7.4, but after looking at the ftp site I see it is 8.0. Thanks for the correction, and tips. I guess I can wait a week or two for the full version if it is that close. It looks like many mirrors hve just added a 8.0 branch, and as you say it usually doesn't take long after the branch appears before it actually gets contents. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 9+ messages in thread

Ward @ ` Aaron Howell 0 siblings, 0 replies; 9+ messages in thread From: Aaron Howell @ UTC (permalink / raw) To: speakup The reason people have been confusing v8.0 with v7.4 is that RedHat themselves called the original directory 7.4beta. Apparently for some time they weren't sure whether to release it as 7.4 or 8.0. the actual version number on NULL (the beta release) is 7.3.94. I hope that helps to fix up some of the confusion. (those of us who have our RHCE were hoping it would be 7.4 not 8.0 since it means our RHCE would have been valid longer, but oh well). I did an install of rh7.4 beta (null) on my own off sock standard cds. Just be aware that once you boot up, you'll need to add RUN_FIRSTBOOT=no to etc/sysconfig/firstboot otherwise it'll keep trying to run an X application to do soundcard and printer configs. other than that you should be fine. As for an ftp site, I'm not sure, i get mine from a local mirror at work (which isn't publicly accessible). Regards Aaron On Tue, Sep 24, 2002 at 01:31:16AM -0400, Thomas Ward wrote: > Hi, list. Acker WB2FLW +1-303-777-8123 @ UTC (permalink / raw) To: speakup Hi, Where did you get the 7.4 number? Everyones guess was 8.0 because of the new glibc and gcc-3.2. As it happens, last night an 8.0 directory appeared on the FTP site. Generally, it takes about a week before the directory becomes readable, giving time for mirror sites to get caught up. If you can wait a week, keeping in mind that there's no guarantee that it'll be released then, cool. Or, maybe you can still get the beta from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/beta/null/ I suggest that you try to find a mirror.
