* Adding List Identifier To Subject Lines of List Posts

Dear list:
I have only been a member for a very short period of time, but I have a good idea.
I believe that it would be a good idea to add the word Speakup perhaps in brackets to the beginning of all subject lines of all posts to the list. This way, members can filter all posts to the Speakup mailing list, whether they are sent to the list or to the poster themselves.
What do you think? Perhaps to keep list traffic to a minimum on this discussion, you could send replies to me direct.
Would the mods and admins prefer that I discuss this with them directly?
Has this approach been tried, and abandoned previously?

Hi.
There are already headers in mail from the speakup list so procmail can
filter it. I notice you are running Windows, so I don't know what to
tell you about filtering mail with Outlook express.
Personally, I would find having speakup added to the subject of all
message a useless addition.

I have to concur with Kenny. I personally find lists that have their
name in the subject line to be very annoying. If you want to filter
based on a list, then do that by filtering on the to line, as well as
other info in the headers for this list, as Kenny has said. From what
I can recall, outlook express is capable of doing this. I can't speak
for other windows mail clients though.

Hi all.
I appreciate the responses thus far.
As I am becoming aware, this list has those who are capable of tact and
professionalism, and those who have some growing up to do. Gregory's
response is part of the former category, and I greatly appreciate the advice
of those who had some to give. For those who would spoute uselessness in an
untactful way, we know who you are, including the fact that you often write
to this list with issues that do not directly pertain to the Speakup
package, wasting everyone's time who have to sort through the junk. But by
putting your name out there with a response that concerns only your poor
distaste for the annoyingness of my suggestion without consideration as to
why I suggested it, you've earned yourself a reputation.. However, your
response was nonetheless considered, Tyler.

I must state that I appreciate hearing the source of the message as I arrow
through the list of messages.
This list does that, and in Windows, Outlook Express, you need to go under
view to columns, and select the "from" column to be shown.

Another point is that if you can set up a mail filter to take action on
content of mail, then you can get it to identify speakup list mail by the
standard footer.
If this proves too much, then the simple method to keep it obvious (and keep
down traffic) put your mailman options for the list to be digest.

I have used the filters in Outlook Express and frequently have used the
list name as a filter, so it can be done.

I do this very thing but since I run a local linux mail server (Exim), I
use its filtering capabilities to sort my mail into folders as you
desire. I use different header fields from messages of different lists.
Mailman, the lister for Speakup provides some excelent reliable header
fields. Just open up the full headers and read throu down to the
message body and you'll see what I mean. I think it is something like
List-Reply-to: or List-Name:; There are several actually.
I also do not like the list name to be embedded in the subject line as
it wastes valuable realestate so to speak. The list of messages for any
given folder has limitted space for the subject and the list name would
just eat up some of that valuable space, causing more of the subject
line to be truncated.

The whole reason why I brought this idea up was not to filter based on traffic, but to filter based on a constant characteristic of the mail headers, so that I could have the mail client automatically deliver the messages from the list to a designated folder so that I may sort my mail.
Thanks to a few helpful hints from some generous respondants, I am on my way to setting up a filter that can do just that without annoying anyone as some put it.
