Well there is the dectalk software from www.fonix.com which is not
free. If you're wanting a free synth there's flite which is the default
for speech dispatcher and festival works with speech dispatcher as well.

Hi guys. I've had good experience using flite as my software synth. Is
there any way I can raise the volume on the synth? It doesn't seem to be
all that lod compared to the rest of the audio that comes out of the sound
card.
Thanks.

Tom

Hi their. Synth_direct is when you want to send data directlry to the
synth. For exampke, suppose you want to increase the inflection of the
Dectalk Express. You would cat the parameters to
/proc/speakup/synth_direct, since Speakup doesn't have an equivellent
function. Not sure about the other values though.

While we're kind of on the subject of synths, is there any kind of
documentation which explains what the different peramiters in
/proc/speakup do? Some are self explanitory like punc_level and rate.
Others are a little harder to figure out like jiffy_delta and synth_direct
etc. Sean
