Hello, all.
I have a question concerning serial installation of linux. I made such
installations several times without any problem, but i had to use
speech enabled windows box as a "talking terminal". My question is,
how can i use speech enabled linux machine for the same purpose? I
tried minicom, but without success. It seems to me that it can work
only with modem. Though i might have missed something? Any suggestions
will be highly appreciated.
With best regards,
Sergey.

I'm sure you could use minicom but you would have to disable any modem
initialization. Or at least start minicom with a modem in place to
get it up and going but then unplug the modem and hook up the null
modem cable or a cable with a null modem adaptor on it to the computer
you are trying to install on. Oh, one other thing; be sure your baud
rates match up. I'll bet most systems when booting from scratch would
probably be going at 9600,n,8,1 and minicom would typically talk to a
modem at 38400 or higher.
Hope this helps.

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
minicom should be able to work with straight serial connections. or at
least that's what I think...what you want to do is run minicom -s and
tell it to use the serial port you have your box connected to.
