Hi all,

I didn't read the entire thread before my prior post.

EM and most of the oracle applications are now written to be used via the web, so that shouldn't be a problem either from a windows pc or from firefox under EL with orca.

Sqlplus is a command-line client, so simply use orca and open a gnome-terminal window and run sqlplus in it.  I can verify that this works well.  Because I need to setup an EL virtual machine for some of my testing, I will check on getting Speakup to work as I have some time and get back to the list about it.

If you can find the kernel headers that correspond to the kernel running on the Oracle Enterprise linux, you should be able to build speakup for that box even if the staging modules are not present.
You can however do most things through a remote ssh connection to an oracle server.
When you talk about Oracle applications, I suppose you refer to things like Oracle financials etc.
My own experience with those which was long ago, indicated that Oracle's apps are notoriusly inaccessible.
Unless life in the Oracle world has changed a lot, I do not see the need to be able to work on the Oracle server directly with spee=ch. Use ssh from a normal linux PC for that.
Others with more reacent Oracle experience should confirm/deny this.
