If you press and hold down pound and then press Program 2, the key to the right of the Apps key, it will cycle through modes. If you select numeric mode, that will set the keys to the speakup keys in the console mode.

Hi,
I know this is not a specifically Icon-related list, but I did get mine just yesterday, and felt that since the topic is at least Speakup-related I'd chance asking it here rather than subscribing to yet another mailing list.
The question I have is this: I have a Braille Plus, with the extra Braille keyboard that implies. I'm somewhat at a loss as to how to use the Speakup keypad review functions? The regular Icon keypad does the ABC mode thing, which was unexpected and a little disappointing. Is there some special key I need to use in combination with the keypad keys to produce the ones Speakup expects in the console?
Thanks much in advance, and sorry if this is OT.
Zack.

Hi,
I am running into a problem with this combination with both the
espeak-generic and the espeak modules.
The tone of the voice used to go higher when a capital letter was pressed,
but now there is no difference.
I only see a configuration option to make it play a sound and not one to
make the pitch go up.
Is there some setting in speechd.conf or elsewhere to restore the old
behaviour?
TIA, Willem

Hi.

Look at /etc/speech-dispatcher/modules/espeak.conf

Note this is from memory, actual file name may be different, but you get the idea.

Thanks, I am half-way there.
There is a setting which when changed from 0 to 1 makes it speak text in a
higher voice, but not when the letters are typed.
I am used to the other way around, ie, the pitch rises when typing and
when reviewing with the numpad, but not during normal display.
TIA, Willem

Hi,
I can only find ABC mode and thumb braille mode. Is there a specific
place where I need to do this? Before entering Console?
Thanks,
Zack.

Hello,
I've found that the most natural way to use console mode is with an
attached usb keyboard. Otherwise, you have to keep switching between
numeric keypad mode and abc or num-braille mode. Perhaps this is not
necessary on the braille-plus if you can use the braille keys for
character entry.

Chris
