off-topic: Just how the heck does one use gnome/gnopernicus

If someone that knows how to actually do something with gnopernicus could 
respond I would very much appreciate some help. <smile>
Here is how I launch gnopernicus from a text console.
xinit gnopernicus
All I seem to be able to do is change the voice parameters and look at 
gnopernicus's preferences dialogue.  How does one actually launch 
applications?  Or use window managers?

I haven't used gnopernicus/gnome in 2 years or more now, so all I'm
about to write stands to be corrected. If you don't want to be
potentially confused/misinformed, use your delete key now.

You need to launch gnopernicus from within gnome itself. This means
actually being in gnome, and running gnopernicus from the gnome
desktop, not from the text console. I believe the run command is
alt+f2, but I don't remember for sure. If I'm correct, you want to do
something like pressing alt+f2, typing /usr/bin/gnopernicus, followed by
the enter key to launch gnopernicus. Beyond that, I don't remember
much.

Back when gnopernicus first came out, Mark Mulkayhe (spelling) did a
series on acb radios main menu, taking you through the basics of using
it with some applications, along with teaching some gnome/x basics. I
don't know how much of that is still relevant today, but if you're not
up for going through the docs, you might want to find that, and give
it a listen as a starting point. Hth somewhat.

I remember listening to that series on acbradio, and gnopernicus never 
worked as well for me as it did in that series.  Even trying it with 
the latest version as recently as a year or so ago.  So I guess your 
milage varies.

That is if you can get it going.  It requires Gnome 2.14.
It will say the required info by default where it works.
I never could get any real work done using Gnopernicus.

Is orca useful? I mainly ask that because I like keeping my system clean of 
things that aren't very useful, and gnome, X and all the GUI stuff wasn't 
useful as I could never get going with gnopernicus. for anything except its 
own control panel. Suppose I mean is there things I can do with gnome and 
orca that I can't do with speakup in a text console.

Yes, there are some applications that now work.  You might find one for 
which there is no text alternative, but I cannot think of one now.
However, Orca is testable and the Authors need us to try applications and 
report problems.
I have tested the planner application and reported a problem or two.  That 
resulted in a more accessible planner application in less than a week.
You might want to wait a while if you are not ready for testing and 
finding problems.

Thanks for that, is that using mozilla? As I remember that someone mentioned 
that elinks using spidermonkey, gives it about the same javascript support 
as mozilla. I may be wrong about that, and there are some cases where some 
websites that use javascript refuse to load in elinks, but are meant to work 
in mozilla under linux. Unless there is something else that I use Windows 
for such as OCR (currently I have not found a satisfactory OCR system under 
linux), then I will probably wait and see what happens about accessibility 
under graphical desktops in linux for a bit, as I understand KDE is working 
on some better accessibility features (ones to allow screen readers), and my 
want for a tidy system says that all that gnome stuff is a bit much.
