I've installed viavoice sdk, correctly installed and configured
speech-dispatcher, and get only silence when running the speech tests.
According to the output of the tests, it's supposed to be speaking, but
nothing through the sound card. I've tried using both alsa and oss
configurations. Similar problem with gnome-speech-0.3.10. It compiles
okay, and test-speech allows me to select the viavoice driver, but then
complains it can't initialize the server. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Josh

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.

Just checking, for viavoice to work you need the commercial viavoice
engine and not only the open-sourced sdk.
I suppose you have the engine installed as well.
If not, you are getting exactly what is expected, a running non-speaking
setup.

See Willem's reply.

BTW, the Linux commercial product is now called IBM TTS instead of ViaVoice.
Contact Capital Accessibility if you want to purchase a copy. Their website
purchase doesn't work, so you'll need to contact them directly.
