Hi all. Has anyone been able to successfully listen to ACB's MainMenu using freeamp under Linux with the alsa drivers? Because every time I try to listen to an m3u file on that page, I get redirected back to the archive page. However, when I go to listen to shoutcast streams, freeamp loads and plays the stream with no problem. So I know that I don't have any incorrect mime types set. Does ACB use audio/x-mpegurl or audio/mpegurl as the mime type for the m3u files? Both of them are set in /etc/mime.types to load freeamp when encountered, so I know there's no problem there. According to Matt Campbell, he said that the server isn't set to send the correct mime type (s) to a browser such as lynx. Does this still hold true? If anyone could enlighten me as to why I can't listen to ACB shows under Linux, it would be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance!

I use trplayer with alsa, and am able to listen to both main menu live and on demand just fine.

Hi Greg. You mean that trplayer will handle m3u playlists and play mp3 files? Or are there some archived realaudio streams that I don't know about yet?

Hi, trplayer supports every format real player does. That is mp3, wav, and
of real audio.

Hi Greg. But does Freeamp handle m3u as well? Because I want to know whether I absolutely have to get trplayer or if I can use Freeamp.

Chuck,
I think we both have the same trplayer andrealplayer libraries. Anyway, I just checked, and my trplayer can play both .wav and .au files.

I don't know. I never bothered getting freeamp, because I'm satisfied with trplayer.

Hi Greg. Well I'll probably end up getting trplayer at some point anyway, but what difference would it make if Lynx is redirected back to the mainmenu archive page? This could either be that Freeamp doesn't support m3u which is theoretically should, or there'ssomething wrong in the way acbradio.org is sending mime types. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get an accurate header dump from Lynx, so I can't tell what its trying to send. I'm just trying to find out whether or not getting trplayer will solve the m3u problem, or whether its a server problem. But if freeamp does in fact handle m3u, and I'm experiencing this problem, its probably on the server end.

I wonder what the difference is? I checked just before sending my
earlier message too, and wav files do not play on my
trplayer/Realplayer8 setup. I use alsa 0.9.0beta11 with OSS
emulation, and I can play the various mp3 stuff okay and of
course real audio, but I need to switch to play or apaly for wav
files.

Strange, because it should. I just played a wav file to make sure of it,
and trplayer did it.

Thomas - Something very strange going on here... I just tried
playing a wav file again with trplayer and this time it worked,
except it left my console in an unusable state when it
terminated. I am not sure this is a problem I want to solve right
now; the consensus seems to be that it does work, except on my
system. It seems a bit like overkill to play a wav file with
Realplayer8 anyway, so I will stick with play/aplay for the time
being.

Hi Thomas. I guess that I'll get trplayer and the realplayer 8 libs and see what happens in terms of m3u.

Hi Randy. What version does this occur on? Because I just want to make sure this doesn't happen on my system.

There is certainly something up with trplayer and wav files in general.
They play on
my box too, but they usually locked up afterwards. So I usually stick with
play myself.

Yeah it's the MIME type not being sent correctly that causes this. I've
been meaning to nag Matt about this. It's always been a problem with ACB
radio. Note that the live streams work OK because they aren't M3U files.

I'll have to look around here to see what I did now. I can play main
menu with its .m3u files from lynx with no problem. I can't remember
right off the top of my head right now but I think I rigged up a
script that intercepts this and plays it through trplayer. I'll take
a look further later today when I have more time.
