Dear listers,
I am sorry to ask this question. I am sure it has been asked thousands times
already. Why can't I locate bootdisks for Redhat7.1? Are they the same as
for the 7.0? WHere the original bootdisks for 7.0 ever updated? If I already
have bootdisk for 7.0, do I need to redownload?
Best regards,
Victor

PS Please be advised that downloading .iso images for installation cD's is
not an option for me at this time.

Hi, Shon!
I use Doubletalk External. But, as far as I remember, Speakup 0.10 has
all synthesizers included and one should only specify his/her synth on
the command line. Is that true?
Best,
Vic

Hi all,

Shaun: I don't know where you got your DTLK specific bootdisk, but
the 7.1 disks I've hacked up are based on the Saint Paddy's day CVS
version
of SPeakup. Therefore, all synthesizers are available. These disks can
be found at: ftp://speakup.octothorp.org/pub/redhat-7.1/d1/images/
At the boot prompt, you should type: text speakup_synth=<value>. For
example, text speakup_synth=dtlk
At the question about adding parameters to the kernel that you'll see
during LILO configuration, you should put the same parameter. For example:
speakup_synth=audptr
This assumes that you're lucky enough to have an Audapter. <grin> If
there is already something in the field such as hdc=ide-scsi, put your
speakup parameter after it making sure that there's a space between them.

          HTH.
          Bill

Victor:

You can use the RH 7.0 disks with the RH 7.1 iso images without problems.
I don't know if there is actually any difference, but I have successfully
used 7.0 disks.

Hi, Bill!
Thanks for this info. Are you planning to put them onto the main
linux-speakup.org website?
Best,
Vic

PS Thanks for the prompt info.

Just to clarify this point. This feature is NOT in speakup 0.10A. It was
introduced after that release and only exists in CVS.

Having said that, as Bill already mentioned, the redhat bootdisks use the
March 17th CVS version so the above is true for those.

Geoff.

Hey there Vic. The speakup modified rh 7.1 boot disks are at:
ftp://198.172.228.165/pub/linux/rh7.1/images
Also the installers are there for doing network installs minus the /images
so that'd be:
ftp://198.172.228.165/pub/linux/rh7.1 for the install location on the
network install disk when it asks ofr it.

Hi, Tomy!
Did you try using those images? I bet you did. Can you explain to me why
typing

text speakup_synth=ltlk

at the boot prompt does not yield any further results with my Doubletalk
external synthesizer? I tried typing vmlinuz instead of text, but no speech
came up at all. However, as I say, the disk does not seem to recognize the
"text" parameter. Why?
Best regards,
Victor

Woops, let me take my words back for a while. I am downloading the image
again and, as far as I can see now, the sizes from the first download is
different from the current one. If I have problems, I will report to the
list.
Sorry for premature confusion...
Vic

Ok, nope, haven't gotten a chance ot thry those images. Will have to talk
to Bill about that since I don't maintain them. I'm just hosting them for
Bill and the project on my server because of the connection.
Any thoughts Bill?

i am also having problems sending out messages with micq
i have had this problem for about a month now.
when the system is working i can send test messages to my icq number,
i have also upgraded to version 0.4.7
some of this might just be the icq server because i have a friend in
windows who is also having icq problems.
thanks to all,
randy
