Hi All,
Thanks for all the answers to my previous question.
However, I have one more.
My friend mentioned before, uses net0 as his isp.
Under Linux, do I need to get some special software
for him to use? If so, then where can I get it from?
If not, I'm assuming I can just setup pppd as usual for his connection.

Nope! Sorry. Unless you hack the net0 dialup protocol your not going to
be able to use that as your isp with a standard ppp connection.

Right. I think I remember somewhere on freshmeat seeing some patch to ppp
to allow for some free internet service providor under Linux but I know
for sure it was not netzero. It might have been for k-mart's but if it
was that they are offline now so it would not matter.

Free isps are failing. They're just not making the money from advertisers.
Juno and Netzero are now offering "premium" service, as a result. What's
the premium? No advertising. Gosh, such a deal.

I think that Juno was doing quite well with their email only service. I
believe that they may still be doing well with it. But it is hard to
generate $20 in revenue for ads while people surf. And that is about what
it takes to be profitable in the dial up arena.

Not the free Netzero service, at any rate. Perhaps the for fee is a
different story--but then I think his point is to get a free dialup. As
with most things in life, there's no free lunch online either. The price,
at least in the Netzero business plan, is all those eyeballs looking at
all those ads. Put differently, Netzero sells consumers to advertizers.
It's an ad delivery mechanism.

He might try freewwweb.com if they are still around. I used them briefly
while I was hunting for a dsl provider. I slogged about their sight and
found some info that allowed me to configure ppp and I was using it with
no problems.

I think your friend will be out of luck. If Net0 is like most free
internet access places they require their banner ad to be running or they
disconnect the call. If this is the case, you would need to get software
from them (and it would probably require X though that issue can be dealt
with).
