speakup and e-links

Documentation on these two together is pretty sparse. Any tips on settings in speakup and e-links to make them work better together?

Probably the most important thing to do is to turn on highlight tracking 
in Speakup. There should also be a configuration option in elinks to 
allow the cursor to be placed on a link as you arrow to it. I can't give 
you specifics, as I Haven't really used elinks in quite some time, but 
those two things are most important for getting the most out of this 
combination.

Well, many times, even after turning on numbering, numbers are not consecutive, 
more likely a jumbled order

Hmmm. I don't recall ever seeing jumbled numbering, but I was more 
likely to turn on numbering in Lynx l y n x than in elinks. Perhaps it's 
a bug in the way Elinks is parsing the html. And yes, numbering can be 
important, but for links l i n k s and elinks, I believe the most 
important things are cursor placement and the Speakup highlight 
tracking. Numbering is definitely good if it is handled correctly.

Hi There is an option show-cursor which you need to turn on so that
the cursor will follow the links as you up and down arrow through the
page.  You can turn it on before entering elinks with -show-cursor and
then turn it on permanently inside elinks with the 'o' keystroke to go
into the configuration system.  The configuration system is a little
confusing until you become familiar with it.  You hit the spacebar to
expand menu options and unexpand them the same way.  You use the tab
key to move through your various menu options like add, delete, edit,
search etc.

You may find numbering useful.  I do not.  I find the cursor works
just fine for moving through the links on a page.  I have a lot of
different options set but they are not to satisfy speakup just satisfy
my particular preferences.  I've never turned on highlight tracking
but some may find that useful.  Elinks is my main web browser or has
been until we started writing wb.  It is a fine browser for what it
does.

The speakup user guide is on the linux-speakup.org web site.  Whether
it will help you learn how to use individual applications, I rather
doubt.

error message.  I also didn't find it mentioned on the man page.  Am I

Very odd, you are right of course.  I believe they must have changed
the flag name at some point.  I've had it set so long that I never
noticed.  The current feature which seems to control that behaviour is
block_cursor which you will find under terminal > linux >
block_cursor.  Set that to zero in the edit pain which you need to tab
over one to reach from the options screen once you get there.

Not finding block-cursor on the elinks man page, I did a yahoo search 
(having first done a google search) and found this at

Block cursor

Move cursor to the bottom right corner when done drawing, if possible. 
This is particularly useful when we have a block cursor, so that text 
colors are displayed correctly. If you are using a screen reader you do 
not want to enable this since the cursor is strategically positioned 
near relevant text of selected dialog elements.

This boolean option is off by default.

This, then, does not look like a replacement for the --show_cursor or 
--show-cursor (I forget which) I used with lynx and you've used in 
elinks.  I thought I'd pass this along, especially in case I got tripped 
up by the terminology and there is indeed something relevant.

That is definitely the option I was speaking of.  The reason I
mentioned it is whoever is having trouble with their cursor not
tracking the high lighting probably has that turned on.

I am not sure if it will be helpful but here is a link to my
elinks.conf file folks can download if they like.  It goes in the
.elinks directory of your home directory.
