Is there a live CD that can boot up with speakup speaking with a
software synth?
I want to install Linux again and it's always easier to do so from
within a Linux environment.
I don't really care what distro it is, just that it starts talking and
isn't orca.

Hi folks,
If I install using GRML and I want to install Debian, am I installing GRML
or Debian as the underlying system?
Thanks

I just use debootstrap and install debian; grml2hd has always frozen at
around 42% for me.

grml2hd is to install grml to the hard disk. Tylor you say that grml2hd
sticks at about 42%, I remember from when I did a podcast for installing
GRML I mentioned that it seems to take a long time over one particular
percentage, but it does eventually move on, I think its how it
identifies its percentage as it jumps forward quite alot when it moves
on (I am also fairly certain it was about 42% where it is slow).
The GRML documentation suggests using grml-debootstrap
http://www.grml.org/grml-debootstrap for installing plain debian.

Try reporting this on the grml lists. They might want to know about this.

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
I would doubt it should take that long, it really would have to be a low
spec computer to take that long (probably so low spec you probably
wouldn't have got the LiveCD running). On my pentium4 2.4GHz it took
about just over an hour to do the podcast on installing GRML (I trimmed
out some of the waiting time from the podcast itself, hence that is why
my podcast was shorter than an hour).
If you could report the issue to the GRML mailing list with more details
(eg. version of GRML,system specs, any relevant log files (you may need
to ask on the GRML list for details of which log files would be
relevant), etc) I am sure someone will try and help find out the cause.
