Vinux burning problems

Hi,
I have been trying to burn Vinux onto a CD, I am using the i386 desktop 
version, the current stable release, I believe the number is 3.0.2.1.
It says on the site, that it is 698 MB in size.
I have been trying all day to burn it, and I am thinking that it is not a 
problem at this end.
I have downloaded it twice to be sure.
When I read the properties of the file, it reads as 698 MB, but when I read 
the status line when I am on the file, it reads:
715766 KB, which sounds like it is over 700 MB.
I have tried a number of burning programs, and they all say that there is 
not enough space on the disk, I have tried 3 types of blank CDs that I have 
here.
I burned the image to a USB thumb drive with Universal Pen drive, and it 
booted okay.
With Nero, I set the over-write protection to on, and to off, and in either 
case, I got the same result.
Any suggestions?

Well, Glen, while I   know little of burning, I would think there would be a 
way to directly run an image on a hard-drive.
As far as your 2 different file sizes, I seem to remember its something about 
1024 verses??        I trust others will be better able to explain

I believe this image is designed for a CD.
I just booted to the Vinux I installed onto a USB thumb drive, and it would 
not let me burn it to the CD either.
Then I put a rewriteable DVD into the drive, and in Linux, I was able to 
burn it.
It read it as 699 MB.
It read that even with Over-Burn on, it could not write to the CD.
So I believe there is a problem with the Vinux download file.

I don't have much experience with this, but I wanted to clarify: 715766 KB is 699 MB, you need to divide KB by 1024 to get MB, not 1000. Is there an md5 sum associated with your download? You might be able to verify whether the iso is bad or your setup.

That will give you the hash of the contents of the file.

Might I respectfully suggest asking on the Vinux list? They should know 
if they have had any prior issues/have instructions for burning their 
distro to disk.

The odd thing is though, I downloaded it twice, and it's the same size, 
which should also indicate that the file is okay.
Besides, I burned it to a USB drive, and it ran okay.
It's just when I try to burn it to CD.
Oh yeh, I also burned it to a DVD and it works.
But it is made for a CD.

they are measured in minutes, rather than megabytes.  I have some that can 
hold about 700 MB.  I think they are called 73-minute CDs.  So, basically, 
find the largest capacity CD you have and try it.

Actually Vinux only uses speakup at the console, it uses espeak and orca 
to allow the GUI to talk.
You will get better support of Vinux on the Vinux list, as they know 
about the specifics of the system better than most of those on this list do.

cds are measured in either megabytes and or minutes. 700,000,000 bytes 
is an 80-minute cd which is to say it holds 80 minutes of audio or 700 
megs of data.
74-minute cds hold 650 megabytes of data.
The actual capacity of the disk is best measured in the number of frames 
or sectors. 74-minute disks have 325000 2048 byte sectors, whilst 80 
minute blanks hold at least 333,000 2048 byte sectors.

Data uses 2048 byte sectors with more ECC than audio which uses 2352 
byte sectors hence the difference in audio or data storage.

You can get 90-minute blanks but they are rare.

I tried burning it to a couple of 700 MB CDRWs tonight, and no-go.
I had to burn them to DVDs.
I burned them in Vinux that I installed onto a USB drive.

Well, they do have a DVD version.  It's bigger, of course, but if the CD 
version doesn't actually fit on a CD, you may as well download either the 
DVD version, or the version for USB thumb drives.  It sounds like they may 
have to give up on the CD version entirely.
