Hi,

I'm trying to repurpose an old Windows 7 box as a Linux box to replace
my ancient and hopelessly out of date Gentoo system. I downloaded a
Debian Netinstall image, burned it to a CD, booted it, hit s at the boot
screen, did the install, rebooted, and…the freshly-installed system
didn't come up talking. I know it's running because I installed an SSH
server and I can SSH into it. Apparently Espeakup isn't running for some
reason. Below are the errors being logged, but I'm so new to the way
Debian does accessibility, and using software speech on Linux, that I
have no idea what these mean or how to fix them. I chose Debian because
I have a VPS running Debian so I'm used to it. Errors pasted below.

Which version did you download, exactly?

EEERRRGL why is this bug still there?! It was supposed to be fixed in
9.7... Alternatively, you can use 9.5:

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/9.5.0/amd64/iso-cd/

Note: bug reports about Debian should really be reported to
debian-accessibility@debian.org, otherwise they really run the risk
of not being noticed. I happen to read speakup@, but not everything,
so chances are that I would have missed it, and all other people on
debian-accessibility@lists.debian.org will have missed it.

9.7 was apparently a fix release for apt only, that's why it doesn't
contain the fix. 9.8 should be alright when it comes out.

What's the best mailing list to be on to be notified of new Debian
releases?I always participate in the torrent method of distributing and
I'm still handing out 9.5.

It's debian-announce@lists.debian.org, which is exactly only for that (5
mails total in 2018)
