Hi all.
I'm running debian stable (Lenny), and have apt-build installed. In my
sources.list, I have:
deb file:/var/cache/apt-build/repository apt-build main
I've built a package using apt-build, and have it installed. However,
when I run apt-get dist-upgrade, I'm told that the package I built
locally needs to be upgraded. Does anyone know if there is a way to
override the debian sources for package x, using the apt-build
repository instead?
My solution for now is to put that package on hold, but I would prefer
to override the official repos with apt-build, if that's
possible. Yes, before anyone asks, I have run apt-get update, so the
apt system knows everything there is to know about available sources
of packages. Thanks for any help in advance.
Greg
P.S. The entry for apt-build is at the bottom of sources.list. I tried
putting it as the first entry, and running apt-get update, but there's
no
difference.

Hi,
Where you put a source in sources.list generally doesn't seem to
matter. I suggest you read the apt man pages, specifically read about
pinning. I think that's in apt(5) but I'm not sure. It's also
documented on debian.org under documentation. To see what your pinning
priority is, do "apt-cache policy package" and look for the number
listed, such as 100 or 500.

Thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction. I actually found
what I was looking for, (since I found out I needed to look for it),
in apt_preferences(5). I now have my preferences file setup in such a
way, so that packages in the apt-build repository have higher priority
over the official debian repositories. Thanks again for telling me
what to look for.
