Cody,

I think you need to substitute a dot for the underscore in those boot
parameters.

speakup.synth=xxx speakup.ser=n

Try that and see.

Chuck

Hi,
Which distribution, exactly, are you trying to install? Personally, I
wouldn't recommend something as out of date as Redhat 9, in the subject
line. You also mentioned Shrike, which is old too: I'm mildly confused.
Any clarification would be appreciated.
Best,
Zack.

Hi,
- From what I can read, you're right actually. I still don't know why you
want it--that version is years old and has probably got security wholes
to rival swis cheese. Mightn't Fedora be more to the point?
I'm not sure why it isn't talking: I've never used it, but I can say
for sure that you don't want to use periods in the speakup
parameters. That's a git-specific change and relatively recent.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Best,
Zack.

Hi all I know this is a bit outdated, but I have downloaded the shrike
3 cd set and am trying to install but yet again, the stupid boot
commands are really annoying me. I am using the following I found on a
fedora wiki

text speakup_synth=bns speakup_ser=0

is this right? If so, why am I not getting speech? The cabling /
settings on my bns are fine. Actually I'm using a blazer but same
difference. Thanks for any help.

Sorry, Cody, I assumed you meant Fedora 9.

I was under the impression that redhat 9 was also called shrike. I
guess I bured the wrong cds? I was going to setup a redhat9 server and
then update it to the latest kernel and sources available. However I
just can't get speakup to start talking
