Hi, I am trying to patch speakup into kernel 2.6.15-1 and get errors
during make.
I know there are some changes to speakup to handle kernel changes, but I
am not sure of these.
Which version of speakup can I grab that should compile against this
kernel version?
TIA
Willem

I don't know for sure but weren't there some changes around 2.6.16? I
was having all kinds of problems until Kirk got the latest patches in
last week and I got a clean patch and compile with Speakup from May 3,
2006 and Kernel 2.6.16.12. That did it for me. I get real tired of the
changes in the kernel that keep breaking speakup. We end up with so
many different versions of Speakup that aren't compatible with a
particular kernel. It must be a nightmare for Kirk and whoever else to
keep up with such changes.

If memory serves, you need cvs speakup from March 19th 2006, or
earlier to be able to patch it into 2.6.15.1.

Thanks,
I am now busy with 2.6.16.12 but might have to go back to 15 at some
stage.
Speakup now spells words where it would have spoken them before.
I thought I saw a message saying something about pre-empt kernel which was
related to this.
What exactly is needed here?
TIA
Willem

It is called Preempt the Big Kernel Lock and I am not sure exactly where
it is located. Processor Type and Features, perhaps?
