I was having all kinds of problems until Kirk got the latest patches in last week and I got a clean patch and compile with Speakup from May 3, 2006 and Kernel 2.6.16.12. That did it for me. I get real tired of the changes in the kernel that keep breaking speakup. We end up with so many different versions of Speakup that aren't compatible with a particular kernel. It must be a nightmare for Kirk and whoever else to keep up with such changes.
