Hello,
I installing debian from the install iso. How do you follow the menus with
speakup?
For instance, in the partitioning menu, how do you know whether you are on
yes, no or goback? I thought I had saved my partition table changes, but
they didn't take. When I go into the "install base system" it brings me
into the partition menu.
Anyway, does the tab key do anything or do I use the up/down keys? Maybe I
need to turn follow-corsus off.
Menus sure weren't designed with us in mind <grin>.

The debian installer manual also says that there is a debian_frontend option
that you can set to text, but this may or may not be supported by this iso. I
can tell you that the yes/no dialogs seemed to behave differently on my del
laptop then they did on my gateway desktop. If Shane's suggestions don't work,
you could always choose a non-critical option like the exit option and see if it
really exits when you think you are on the yes option.

The insert+period keystroke may prove useful in such cases. It identifies
the color of the text under the Speakup cursor. Basically, whichever
option is in a different color is probably the one that is selected. Most
often, it will be something like "bright red on white," or it will be the
inverse of the rest of the screen. The screen will be white on black,
except the selected option which is black on white. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I was able to install debian although I
now have to back in a pick the packages I want.
A follow-up question is when you have two hard-drives how to tell the
installer
on which drive to install the system? Also does the install iso
have any packages on it or do I need to connect to a network to get them.
Thanks
Chris

though your best bet is probably to just use fdisk or something to
partition the disks.

When you say 'I wrote a program that crashed Windows', people just stare at
you blankly and say 'Hey, I got those with the system, *for free*'.

Hi.
Use read word to find out what choice you are on. Use up and down arrow
to move between selections in the menu.
Personally, I like the menus on the iso better than the method used on
the floppy install. Of course every one's preference is different.
Use dpkg-reconfigure debconf to change your preference after your
install is complete.
Hope this helps.
