Thanks for all your suggestions.  I was able to install debian although I
now have to back in a pick the packages I want.  

A follow-up question is when you have two hard-drives how to tell the
installer
on which drive to install the system?  Also does the install iso
have any packages on it or do I need to connect to a network to get them.
