Hi.
Why are you using a public mailing list to test email configuration?
I just create another account on the box to test things like email.
Kenny
BTW, now that this is test 3, you failed.

Test #3 was my first successful test. The other two were not sent
immediately due to my configuration errors, and unfortunately they got
sent after I got my act together.
I cannot send mail to my own address since it gets delivered locally
instead of going out through my ISP and finding its way back. I either
need to use a public mailing list or have a friend cooperate to send me
mail. I guess if I had a cooperative friend I wouldn't have to use the
list. It was just easier.

Hi.
I keep forgetting I'm lucky. Since I have my own domains, I can use my
ISP email address to test such things. Also, I can usually find someone
on the reflector to help in case using the ISP address isn't enough
info.
Since mutt lets me see all headers, It is easy to look at what's
happening if something isn't working.

You can send any test mail to
tag-ping@tbs-internet.com
which will bounce it back to you, letting you view all the headers. If that
wouldn't work for you for some reason, then I'm sure those of us on
this list who have our own domains myself included, would be happy to
give you a testing mail account.

What I do in situations like this is use a second mail account out on
one of these services like haotmail or yahoo or something. It so
happens I have a yahoo mail account I use for junk and spam and I just
use that for my mail config testing. Another way to do a sneaky test
using a public list is to respond to somebody's e-mail with a quick
comment that isn't really important. That way, if the test gets
through, so good and you will see the results. if test fails, well the
reply wasn't super important anyhow. Just a couple ways to test without
sending test messages to the list.
