* speakup and 2.4.20 kernel

Hello,
And now for a question about speakup installation!
I patched a new 2.4.20 kernel with the checkout script.
Make menuconfig ran ok, but make dep bombed. On looking at the patches I
following the following .rej files
./drivers/char/Makefile.rej
./drivers/char/keyboard.c.rej

I haven't debugged them yet, but are they "normal"?

Thanks
Chris

No those are not normal. I recommend you get a kernel later than
2.4.22, 2.4.25 works well except I've heard there may be a bug in
speakup introduced last week. I haven't had a chance to check it yet
but will probably get around to it fairly soon.

Thanks, Kirk.
I was still running 2.4.20 because 2.4.22 wouldn't work with my alsa
drivers. I may give 2.4.25 a try.

Thanks again.
Chris

Yes, I would get the latest kernel, 2.4.25 and if you go with the
latest alsa drivers (1.0.4 now) you should compile fine. I'm
personally using 1.0.3 of Alsa which I obtained a month or so ago and
all is working fine here.

Steve,
Thanks for the tip about alsa. I'll try upgrading it.
However, when I tried patching 2.4.25 with the famous checkout script and
did a make mrproper; make menuconfig, make dep
I keep getting this error
make -c speakup
fastdep: target not found. That's the same error I got when I tried kernel
2.4.20.

The patch seemd to go ok, (no .rej) files). Has anyone else tried patching
from cvs lately?

I'm also using speakup as a module which might have something to do with
it.

Chris

I had the same problem with 2.4.25 and checkout; I was doing it built in
to the kernel, not as modules.

Cheryl,
Do you recall how you resolved the problem? Kernel patches are great when
they work, but...

Try the latest CVS of Speakup; that is, check it out again. I believe
he fixed a makefile bug this week. I haven't gotten around to
updating Speakup for a while now.
