* Changing keymap on Debian Squeeze

Hi:

I have booted up the Debian Squeeze espeakup enabled image.
I can't hear Speakup.
But I have a hard time after switching to virtual console 2 to have a try at configuring amixer.

I tried "loadkeys no" (which is the method I use on Arch) to load the Norwegian keymap but it doesn't work.
I also tried "dpkg-reconfigure console-data" but that did not work either from the installation ISO.

How can I change the keymap when running in this environment?

Hi,

Check available keyboards in /usr/share/keymaps. Maybe your keyboard is
"no-latin1" or something else. You need enter the name of the .kmap.gz.

Hi:

Both no and no-latin1 is present in /usr/share/keymaps.
I got someone to look at the screen and when I try to run "loadkeys no" or "loadkeys no-latin" loadkeys exits with:
The gzip not found.
The gzip command is not present.
It's impossible to install/configure the system without the proper keymap loaded.

load no must be done as root. Did you do that? gzip is useless. It was
only a piece of info to give you what should look the name of your
keyboard.

I'm root.
Loadkeys works as expected when I test it on a running installation of Debian 5.0 "lenny" but not when I boot the espeakup enabled Squeeze image.
I loaded the US keymap on my running system and were able to find what key is mapped to what.
I then tried to get Speakup talking on the Squeeze installation but still noe audio.
So I can't get the Squeeze image to talk (software speech) and I can't load the correct keymap.
If I boot the same machine with Arch or even GRML I hear Speakup and loadkeys works as well of course.

Ok, I just got the info that I can only change the keymap from the main menu on VT 1.
Kinda hard to do with no speech...
