Hi. Do you have synths for the boxes?
And enstead of readhat I'd use slackware 8.1. I have it running on a p120
with 16mb of ram and it works fine.

You definitely need a hardware synthesizer if you wish to use speakup. Who
ever told you must have thought you could use speakup with software synths.

You can get slackware from www.slackware.com and it comes with speakup
patched in several of its kernels. Again though, you need a hardware
synthesizer.

AY, you will need synths if you plan to allow someone access using
speech. Of course someone could bring their synth in that is supported
and boot the box with the correct parameters and have speech and I'll
assume this is the intent. Burining the images shouldnt be a problem if
you have access to a box with a burner. Its just a standard iso image
that any Linux/Unix or winblows box with the proper software can burn.

yes I have roxio though and every time I try to burn it, it locks up my
computer. I found some software to unpack the iso file but when I burn them
to a cd and try and open the cd it is inaccessible.

Hi. Do you have a winblows box with a cd burner running something like
adaptech or nero? Just use them to burn a cd using the iso image.

Pardon me if I misunderstood you.

It would be out of scope for the Speakup Modified HOWTO to explaain how
to create CD ROMs. It couldn't possibly do that for all operating
environments and all programs that create CD ROMs.

Consult the documentation for the software you use to create CD ROMs.

It's not hard, but you do need software, and you do need a burner.

So, if this is a burden, go buy a shrink-wrapped st of Red Hat 8.0.
You'll get the same functionality even more up to date. Certainly your
company can afford the $20-$50 cost of Red Hat?

Unfortunately this company is non-profit and does not want to spend money on
the software. That is why they want to use Linux. And the How to on the
speakup site does not tell you how to put it on the cd.

Hi. Do you have synths for the boxes?
And enstead of readhat I'd use slackware 8.1. I have it running on a p120
with 16mb of ram and it works fine.

Use the HOWTO at:

http://www.linux-speakup.org/ftp/disks/redhat/HOWTO_INSTALL.html

Please just ignore all the references to Red Hat 7.3. If you ignore
those, and the urls that point to 7.3 iso images and docs, the rest is
still relevant for Red Hat 8.0

You'll need more RAM. I believe 32 is minimum to install Red Hat.

To All,
I am not sure who to send this to but I need help! I am part of the
AITP club at Devry University in Colorado Springs,CO. and we volunteered to
help the VISI organization by putting Linux with Speakup software on some
donated computers. The computers are 486 and probably 16megs of ram.I can
get more ram if I need. The hard drives are about 2gig. The problem is that
I do not know much about Linux and nothing about the speakup software. I do
have redhat 8 and 7.2. If anyone can give me detailed information on how to
install Linux with Speakup on these machines. Or if it can even be done it
would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kateri Montemayor
