Hi
At the moment I have speakup patched into a 2.6.24.4 kernel but having
difficulty in getting speakup up and talking before login. It's a matter of
passing the start=1 param to modprobe. Is the earliest activation way is to
put it in rc.local?
What are the options for passing parameters to a module during boot up? Can
it be done at boot loader level?
Many thanks.

Hi Gena: You cannot pass module options at the kernel command line
boot prompt. To do that you must have the module or in this case
speakup built-in to the kernel. You can however load it as a module
in /etc/modules by placing speakup_xxxx start=1 where you want it in
the list of other modules you are loading that way.
