Hi people,
I have found an old apollo2 lying around.
Will this work with Speakup? I looked in the howto install for fedora, but
there was nothing there that said "apollo2", just "apollo". Will this work
the same?
Cheers,
Chris Norman

Hi
Your quite right, time for an update, Gene!
Yes it is only the apollo II that is supported by speakup. Although, having said which, not sure about the juno.

Hi,
If my memory serves me correctly, I'm fairly sure the Juno's instruction set
is identical to that for the Apollo 2. I'll check in the manual and let you
know if it isn't.

Also what about something like the gemini? I have one lying about, and it
would be nice to use that with my laptop. Or is it a totally different thing
trying to use pcmcia with speakup?

Hi
Well I'm not that much of a techy but doesn't the pc configure the pcmcia slot as a com port? Thus I thought that there was a fare chance. Also, I thought that the keynote is a pcmcia card.
As Kirk hasn't dropped in, I guess that no-one has got around to writing the driver.

The PCMCIA slots do not come up as serial ports. I guess there's serial
addapters that might plug into the slot but... You have to include
PCMCIA modules into the kernel and the PCMCIA Card Services package of
utilities that will load the appropriate modules for the card you plug
in. The whole thing is pretty cool once you get it all configured. I
now have a network and modem that auto detect and load the right modules
merely by plugging the card into the slot. Now if I can only get my
wireless network to go <sigh>.

Hi
Ummm, networkd cards and modems are assigned com ports. Once the pcmcia drivers up and configured, the devices are seen as being on a /dev/ttySx whereas, USB com ports are seen as /dev/ttyUSBx. Speakup communicates with with /dev/ttySx devices doesn't it?
