Slightly OT: FreeBSD accessibility

Hi everyone, Well I guess the subject pretty much sums it up.
Is there any form of speakup, or similar, for BSD systems? I know that bsd is quite a bit different to linux at the kernel level, so has anything like this been done before?

Don't know about freebsd, but I'm using a netbsd box here via a serial
console and via ssh. I imagine you should be able to run emacs speak,
yaser, and so on on it, though I've not done that. You can install the
system via a serial console, so the install procedure is accessible as
well. Hth.

all,
I am wondering if there is a command in Links that works like the  p 
command in the lynx <the cat browser?  I often come across sites that i 
want to either save as files, or send as e-e-mails to myself, so find the 
option in Lynx < the cat> practically indispensable.

I'm running netbsd on a regular x86 PC. Not sure what a video game

now going on asumption here and i may be off the mark totally cuse i only
ssh into a remote bsd box. but, since gnome is available for freebsd can't
you use gnapernicus on it?

Yes, you should be able to use gnome/gnopernicus on bsd systems,
though due to the age of my netbsd box which isn't powerful enough for
gnopernicus/gnome, I haven't done this.

So, this brings up an interesting question. Is it possible to install BSD 
using, say, ssh, or do we have to use a serial console for that.

Depends what bsd you're talking about. I don't know anything about
openbsd. I was told by someone that freebsd has a graphical install,
which would mean that the install process is inaccessible, but I
myself have not confirmed this, so don't take my word for it. I can
tell you that I have installed netbsd using a serial console, and as
far as I understand the documentation, a network install via ssh or
telnet is not possible. If it is in fact possible, then I'd like to
know how.

According to the docs that I looked at, FreeBSD's sysinstall is text-based
and you can install over a serial console. They may have a graphical
install as well I don't know.

FreeBSD is supposed to install via a serial console from what I understand.  And
the installer is text based, or at least it was when I tried installing it, 
(with assistance) on my laptop.  The only reason I didn't keep it is that it
refused to run my sound card, therefore it was useless to me as a laptop OS.

I've installed FreeBSD over serial console before.
Had to get a modified boot floppy for this though.
It can be installed if you use something like minicom on one end and the FreeBSD installer at the other.
One problem I had though was after the install and everything I disconnected the serial cable and the system wouldn't boot on its own.
Never really figured out how to stop sending the boot messages to the serial port after I was finished using it nad didn't need to have serial access anymore.
One more note I can think of. You can only do the install using the first serial port on the FreeBSD machine.

Have you tried YASR with flite?  If you can get sound working in BSD, (good
luck), YASR should be compatible.

No, I haven't tried yasr with flite, since I am perfectly comfortable
using ssh with speakup, and the machine is a desktop, so it's not
going anywhere. As for the soundcard, my soundblaster 32 awe worked
just fine, until I replaced it with a soundblaster 128 card, which
works fine as well.

Hi,

I did search this a bit and came up with a bit of a blank - I would have
gone this route if I could find something.  I am using a Debian system
now, mainly because the people I know who use BSD also seem to use
Debian a lot.
