Hello list,
Muy teacher very kindly gave me a BNS to use, and I'd like to use it as a synth.
Anyone have the cable, that runs from the bns to the back of the comp?
I'm also probably going to be in the market for a bns in the future, as I have to give this one back soon.
Thanks,
Tyler Littlefield.

Maybe you should be a little more specific on the model of bns you have.
There are two different types of cables depending on what model you have.

bns 2000.
It's got a rounded plug on one side, a male connection, and the standard
male serial on the other side, I think, matter of fact, I think it's female.
:)

Tyler Littlefield.

you should be able to find one from a local computer store, just ask
for a macintosh serial to 9 dv femail cable. and if you want to use
it as a speech device, i believe it must be a numll modem cable.

I stand to be corrected, but I believe the cable that fs provides is a
straight-through cable. Appendix c of the bns2000 manual states that the
bns is a dce device. A pc is a dte device, as far as I know. So, if you want to connect the
bns to a pc to serve as a synth, you don't need a null modem
adapter. In fact, I have my bns connected to my pc right now, and I'm
certainly not using a null modem cable to do so, which means that the
cable fs provides is already made as a null modem, to interface to the
pc, or that it is a straight-through cable.

As for your local computer store having these, I asked at compusa
about 3 years ago if they had the old din connector style mac cables,
and they said they stopped carrying those a while ago, so good luck
finding one locally.

You could of course still buy 1 from FS:

the one you want looks like it has a ps2 connector on one end and a RS232 9
pin female serial connector on the other

No, the connecter that plugs into the port on a bns2000 isn't a ps/2
connector, it's a din-style connector, like those found on old
macs. In fact, if you were to attempt plugging the din end of the bns
cable into a ps/2 port on a pc, you'd discover that it doesn't mate.
