Hi all,

I am using windows and linux here at the house, and I am intrested in finding
an accessible ssh client for windows that supports ssh2.

I took a look at the client from http://www.ssh.com, and the terminal doesn't appear to be accessible to jfw without scripts. Does anyone know of scripts that work with this client? Or are there scripts for another client some where?

Thanks,

William

Hi, Winscp is free, but it's a god aweful pain in the neck.

WSftp is better, for about 20 or 30 USD. Absolute ftp can be configured for
ssh2 using secure crt, but I haven't had time to figure it out yet. None of
these solutions need screen reader configuration under either of the US 2.

I think some here are using ftp voyager. That'd be excelent, but I don't
see how to go about it. Voyager has secure ssl, but I can't find either
https or ssh capabilities.

Hope this helps,

Erik

Securecrt is a pretty accessible client supporting ssh2. Unfortunately it's
not free. Have you looked at putty yet? I don't remember the url but a
google search should turn it up.

I personally haven't had much luck with that program. I could never get
JAWS to locate the cursor in the terminal window, and it kept turning on
my numlock. I never found anything very good for ssh2 which was free.

Hi. For ssh2 under windows I use secure crt. It's speech friendly but
I don't use jfw either. I only had to do some minimal changes to the
window-eyes set but mainly cosmettic changes.

I think you need to change the cursor shape. I am not personally
familiar with the program, but if you search the archives of this list.
I remember seeing several different messages about this. And suddenly
the program becomes accessible, or at least I gathered as much.

I recommend open ssh for Windows. It's the same software Linux uses for ssh.
If you like, I can send it to you.

Hi Joseph,

Didn't know there was such a thing as an Open SSH distro compiled for
Windows. Please provide a link to it.

Thanks.

There are jfw scripts for securecrt that make it pretty much accessible. If
you end up chosing that client I can probably dig them up and send them
along.

William,

I find the Putty client reasonably accessible under JFW. You can grab it
from this page:

http://teddy.fcc.ro/cgi-bin/base/page.pl?page=2&prg

All you need to do is set Jaws to screen echo all, instead of highlited
and possibly hide the desktop clock, as it gets announced when screen echo
is set to all.

HTH,
Tink

I have been using putty with Window-Eyes fairly well but I too had
trouble with cursor tracking. Wineyes could track the cursor about
60% of the time. I'm also looking for something else. I hear Secure
CRT is good but I think rather expensive for personal use - especial
when I'm a fan of free software (Free as in speech).

Hi Steve and all,

The price is my issue with secure crt also. I will pay it if I don't have a choice, but the last time I checked it is $90 (ouch).

Nop, it's gui. I'm not a programmer, but I'd say it's likely got a really
nice 32 bit back end, all visual C or visual basic code. No irritating
custome controls and such to muck up the interface either. A bit of tabbing
as I remember, but as opposed to the crashes of winscp, it's as nothing.

I'd even be willing to pay for it, as secure CRT runs about $100 and wsftp's
only $20-$30 if I remember right, but the speakup site is the only place I
use it right now. I'm running on a shoestring here, and it's tough to
justify the expense.
