Hi folks.
Obviously (because I'm using it) the apolo ii works fine with speakup.
Does anyone know if the Europa internal card also works? This was an isa
card made by Dolfin systems which was exactly the same as the apolo ii,
except it was an internal isa card. I think it just showed itself as
another serial port to the operating system, but cannot be sure. In
theory it should work but I need to be sure, as if so then I can have a
second pc upstairs in my loft as I've been ofvered an old system with a
Europa card for GBP100.
Also, a friend has an old Decktalk PC 1 card, will this work with
Speakup??

I think the key to answering this question depends on whether the Gemini emulates an apolo i or ii. The apolo i cloans won't work, but there's a chance that the ii cloans just might, hence my query to the list. Hi Toby: I seem to be running a Dec-Talk-PC 1 with speakup. Sure it works, but if you like to arrow alot through a screen, the Dec-Talk is very slow to be interrupted. Also, there are some oddities in for example, version 4.1 c. When a word finishes with a sound of a vowel, it is jammed together with the beginning of the next word, so he took becomes hetook. Also, if there are 2 consecutive punctuations, I think they are spoken. If numbers-and-letters are mixed in the same word, they are spoken charictor by charictor. I think I'm doomed. when I use the lines setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none modprobe speakup_{synth_keyword} it tells me that modprobe has failed. can I stress enough that I'm really anxious to get this working? If so, you have the kernels with speakup included and need to turn on almost with the command you sho, but not quite. If you did not rsync, you need to download the kernel from the ftp site appropriate to your cpu. and install it with rpm. Since you're using an Apollo, your command is: modprobe speakup_apolo and nothing else. Note the bad spelling of "apolo." To install the Speakup kernel you need to: rpm -Uv [kernel.name] Please note that all these examples with brackets/braces [kernel.name], or {speakup_synth} are tokens. You don't type [speakup_synth], you substitute the appropriate synth identifier as understood by the code Speakup inserts in the kernel. Get that wrong, and you certainly will not have speech. So, for the Doubletalk internal it becomes: modprobe speakup_dtlk And for your Apollo it is as I gave it above, with the bad spelling and all.
