To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.

Hello everyone,
I was wondering, is there a Live CD version of Fedora?
I have tried Ubuntu on 4 of my computers, 3 of which are laptops, and so
far, no sound on the 2 newer systems, and it does not seem to even boot on
the 2 older units, one is a gateway desktop, and the other is a Presario
1800 laptop.
Maybe even if there is a Fedora Live version, maybe there is no software
speech anyway.
Any sure-fire distros available which I could try?
Thanks
Glenn

in /etc/sysconfig/init there's a statement by default that reads
graphical-boot-up=yes. In what reading I've been doing, it was stated to
permanently disable graphical boot up to set that line to no. Does that
really have any impact on speakup? If someone used that command line as a
shortcut to disable graphical boot up and say didn't turn off firstboot
would firstboot come up anyway? If nobody has yet checked this out, I can
do some experimentation and will put another message up with the
information on what happened.

I got the boot iso and the three speakup enabled isos from the speakup site.
I was able to get the Fedora Core 1.0 working.

Speakup gave me speech throughout the installation process. I could only
choose grub as the boot manager and when I rebooted it came up in graphical
mode. Fortunately it beeps at the login prompt and I can get to the console
with ctrl alt f1.

I am having trouble with gnopernicus. The speech is too fast and the
magnification is too small and garbled.

Still easier to get installed than any other OS I've ever used!
