all over the board...
check ebay...
have seen them from 150 to 900 dollars.
my advice, get a dectalk express...
isa is almost gone, and at least serial ports are still around.

Well, Karen, I had to get new hardware, so I bought a dec-talk usb from GWMicro
for $695. In looking in yahoo shopping I FOUND dectalk expresses for $1195,
however, a vender in Omaha listed one for $1095. I could not get him to return
my call.
Karen, the good news for you is that I won't be needing my decpc card any more.
We can discuss this off-list.

Hi all -- If anyone is interested in a dectalk usb for $650 instead of $695,
go to www.chirpingbat.com
He gives a discount.
Cheers.

Hi Karen:
Well, as has been remarked on already, prices do vary widely. I was
attempting to acquire one for the longest time; pouncing every time I read
of one being available, only to find that someone else had found out about
its availability first. Now, one development that has caused the prices of
used DecTalks to come down is the availability of the new DecTalk USB, which
can also operate in serial mode. IRTI was having a christmas promotion last
year which enabled me to acquire a DecTalk USB for $645. Then, I learned of
the availability of a DecTalk express, and while I now had a brand new
DecTalk capable of working in serial mode, I did, figuring you can never
have enough hardware synthesizers, acquire the used DecTalk express for $300
plus shipping. The seller was both honest and maticulous about the care of
his DecTalk; it was, and is, in pristine condition.
Given the availability of new DecTalk USBs, I wouldn't pay more than
$350-$375 for a used DecTalk express.
HTH!
John

I was lucky and bought mine used for 200 dollars.
I have seen them go lately for around 250 to 300 dollars used.
I wonder if the new USB ones sound as good as the serial port models?

Hi all,
Seeking some opinions. I may have come across a a dec talk express, and
am wondering what the fair market value is these days? Not sure if you
can still buy them new, but I would welcome this, or a dec internal card
if i could find one. Still I do not want to be taken given the article is
not new.
Ideas as to the street price of a dec talk express?
Thanks,
Karen

The DecTalk USB actually sounds a bit better; different housing; possibly a
bigger speaker, but it sounds more resonant; but not so much so that it
should play a determining roll in purchasing the USB version rather than a
good used DecTalk express.

I think some of the difference might be the new speech processing software
on the new dectalk.
if you update a old dectalk to the 4.61 firmware, it sounds almost like
the usb one.

Could well be. My DecTalk express does not give me a version number. I don't
know if my particular DecTalk express can be brought up to version 4.61. No
real need to do that since I have the DecTalk USB.
