Hello. I'm a newcomer at linux and I'd like to ask a simple question.
Is there a way to creat a linux partition for a hard-disc, without re-installing the win? Or do I have to burn all of my stuff to cd's and then split my disc into 2 smaller parts.

Years ago, when I still used Windows, I would use Partition Magic to
resize partitions under Windows. It's not a free application, but it was
quite accessible. Perhaps there's something else these days, though. I
wouldn't know that.

I use a Ubuntu Live CD:

and find that parted works well.

All distributions now have a tool for resizing the windows partition
before installing Linux.
