I'm thinking about replacing my FC2 with Debian, so I went to
http://people.debian.org/~shane/netinst-speakup/
After looking at the very short read-me file, I tried to figure out what I'd need to download for the installation. What are the differences between
speakup_netinst-3.1r0a-1.iso
speakup_netinst-3.1r0a-1.iso.md5
and
speakup_netinst-3.1r0a-1.iso.sign
Would I need to use more than one of these for the installation?

Just the iso file is needed. The others are md5 sums to make sure your
installation is complete before burning it to a cd.

The last two are quite small and are the md5 checksum and digital
signature key you would need to verify that the first one has been
downloaded correctly. You only need the one ending with .iso, but you
need to be sure you have an accurate download.

Hi, the one iso file is what you need. the others are just mainly ways to
check if the file downloaded properly but I usually don't download them. I
installed it ok. I get an error when doing the package configuration that
one or more packages did not install. Iputils and iputilsping I think they
are called. What command can I type to resolve the dependencies and
download them so my system is installed properly. The installation and
configuration is much easier then redhat.

hello is there a version of speakup, or debian or something where I can put the cd in hit inter, it installs linux reboots then prompts me with a log in screen with everything set to go?
kind of like a autounattended cd?

Hi
Well not exactly like other operating systems. Linux is an operating system of choice. I guess you have one machine which you only want Linux and nothing else installed? When you have the freedom to dedicate x amount for users and x for the operating system, choices have to be made. The debian installer is not that intimidating. There's no way of not needing basic knowledge of the hardware to which any operating system is to be installed.
Maybe you want to look at the grml disk, which is a live CD. Just put it in your CD drive and after a few seconds type something like "grml speak". This will enable you to see / hear an operational system but it is not installed on to the hard disk but just in memory.
I believe that there was a way of installing Redhat in an aumated fashion but you'll have to ask Redhat / Fedora users about that one.
Maybe if you offered a little more of your request, we can point you in the right direction.

installation, I want to deticate this machine to linux and nothing else

Well, the use of a speakup enabled live CD is the way to go. I don't know if knoppix speakup enabled can offer software support but grml does. As corrected too you simply got to type at the prompt 'grml swspeak' if you think that you've messed up you can use a ctrl + u to clear the commandline and start again. Hopefully, you'll get a talking shell to have a play around. Ovviously you have to have a soundcard that grml can detect and set up. You'll have to read grml's docs about how to make an install from the live CD.
