Dear List:
I have an installation question regarding Speakup 2.0 in Fedora Core 6.
We have a laptop that already has FC6 installed on it, and no one in our group has kernel compilation experience. I've read that Speakup has become modular, so I am wondering, is there a way to run or install Speakup as a kernel module without having to download the modified CDs and doing a reinstall, or compiling a new kernel?
If this is possible, how would one go about doing such a thing?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
It is quite simple.
1. get, or create, a yum.repo file that points to the speakup modified
Fedora yum repository.
2. make sure that you allow for kernels to be updated in the new repo
file.
3. run yum update.
4. do a mkinitrd. (if you need the syntax, let me know.)
5. restart the computer.
Good luck.

Or you could just get the speakup-modified kernel RPM from either
speakupmodified.org or ftp.rednote.net. Alls you have to do with that is:
rpm kernel{tab}
or you might have to specify "--old" or something, can't remember, look at
the man page for rpm, and search for "old".

It can be even simpler ...

Here's an easy way to do this. Become root on your computer and issue
the following command. You only have to do this once:
rpm -iv http://SpeakupModified.org/speakupmodified-release.rpm
This will install our repo files for you in /etc/yum.repos.d/, and it
will insure that the kernels you get in the future are Speakup enabled
kernels. It will also install our GPG key.

We have this covered.
