Hi.
Things change quickly in the Linux world. Also, it looks like you read
the Fedora HOWTO and just assumed it would work anywhere. Debian ain't
Fedora. Go read the Debian specific docs instead of guessing.
Especially when you continue to guess wrong.
Since you won't read, ****There is not a 2.6 official Debian kernel with
speakup.*** If you want a 2.6 kernel in Debian, you build it
yourself.
There has never been a text speakup)_synth=synthname for Debian. You're
confusing Debian with Fedora. The answers to your questions are spelled
out clearly in the docs for Debian.
Btw, I'm being harsh with you cause you keep not bothering to read.

I guess it may not be for me.
I will no longer bother this list if this is the general consensus here.
As much as I am not a fan of NT, due to screen-reader difficulties, I guess
I may have to forget all of this Linux and go with something that I can get
some help with.

pre-configured to work out of the box. when you setup linux yourself, you have
to do the work.</flame> You could just buy a pre-configured system setup for
linux and have them to make the customizations. That may be a happy medium
between doing something you don't like and doing something else you don't like.

Hello, Glen,
After adding a new kernel just execute 'update-grub'. Beware, that
your new kernel will be loaded by default, so if you want to change it
have a look at the appropriate entry in your grub.lst.

update-grub can remove your specific boot parems, you'll still have to look over
the file and possible edit by hand before rebooting.

Some reading would be a good thing for you. What happened, is you removed
speakup by choosing the newer non-speakup kernel. The readme on the sarge
installation iso states speakup speakup_synth=synth_name> (without the <>
symbols and where synth_name is the name of your synthesiser) is the command to
get speakup. Debian has never used the word text as part of a kernel bootup
parameter with the exception of debian_frontend=text, something which may not
work on every debian-installer image. If you can show me where this exists in
the linux boot howto or some other source for linux boot parameters, I'd like to
know. grub vs. lilo is your choice, they both work.
