Hi

I've tried following the link from speakup to:

ftp://mirror.services.wisc.edu/mirrors/linux/distributions/speakup/disks/debian/sarge/

But I can't seem to download anything, maybe it's because I'm using internet exploder? Or is there another resource where I should go?

Well Gena's done it again, messed up a hard disk from attempting to put 2 different operating system on the same system. <smile>

Regards
Gena

Hi.

My version is probably out of date, but you can try:

http://hittsjunk.net/speakup_netinst-3.1r0a-1.iso

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Someone posted a link to a remastered version of GRML to fix the nasty
spelling of everything problem.

The website listed in the email is no more.

Also, does Ubuntu have software speech?
Thanks

David Harvey

Yes, Ubuntu does have software speech. Since the livecd is a Gnome
desktop, you will be running Gnome instead of a text console when you
boot.

Hi Kenny,

Can I still use a text console? I'm currently using GRML but it's annoying
when the synth spells out everything.

Thanks

David Harvey

Hi.

Yes, but you will probably need to install speech-dispatcher and
speechd-up. Since they are Ubuntu packages, this won't be a problem. Speakup is already in the
kernel. Modprobe speakup_sftsyn will load the softsynth driver.

Hi Kenny,

I've read the Ubuntu pages and it says to press f5 to bring up the boot menu
for the blind option.

Thanks

David Harvey

I noticed your message about the modified grml. It's not totally gone,
just moved slightly. the direct link to the relevant page of my website:
http://allinaccess.com/grml.shtml
I also have a modified espeak-generic.conf file at:
http://tspivey.freeshell.org/espeak-generic.conf
that will make espeak more responsive.
