Well ok I'm not rushing off to the world of GUI as 99% of things are fb
in console mode for me, but I have a burning desire to rid my home of
winblows xp. Of course to that end I need to learn how to use Gnome so
my wife can be ported over to Linux...um I mean moved over to using
Linux. Hmm wonder if you can have a cross-platform wife...well that's
another days topic.
Ok so apparently this apt4rpm program will let me install Gnome 2.4 from
an rpm, but I'll be darned if I can put my packets on the bugger. So
where can this thing be had or would I be better off building the dang
thing from scratch.
You know rollin' your own isn't so bad, but well that's another days
topic as well.<grin>

Good luck Scott. I am trying to build Gnome from source and am running
into problems right now with building Atk and telling it where to find
Glib. After that I think I should be fine in terms of building,
installing, and running Gnome properly. Yes your rasons are similar
Scott...Trying to get my girlfriend using Linux on a Gui, so I figured
Gnome was the best place to start. Thankfully I just got the Xserver
running showing a gray screen. Right now its nothing but that's going to
soon be changed.

Hi, Scott. I took the lazy solution to get my girl friend using Linux.
I installed Gnome 2.2 from Debian packages. It probably isn't as
accessible as Gnome 2.4, but it does enough for me. My girl friend
thinks Mozilla and Gnome 2.2 are great. The upgrade to Gnome 2.4 will
make it more usable for me, but she won't have problems I can't fix.
You can get Gnome 2.2 packages for Debian Woody as well as Sid.

Hello.
Now I know this is probably a really stupid question but I'm going to
ask any way.
Is cdrecord only for SCSI devices? Everything there seems to point to
scsi.
I'm having a problem. It keeps telling me that it cant open the scsi
drive. Then it tells me to run the cdrecord -scanbus program but that's
the program that I've run in the first place. The output from the
program is below.
Cdrecord 1.10 1686-pc-linux-gnu Copyright C 1995-2001 Jrg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory, Cannot open scsi drive, cdrecord:
for possible targets try cdrecord -scanbus, make sure you are root
Any help appreciated

Yes, cdrecord is only for scsi devices. Having said that, if you have
an ide drive, you will need to have ide-scsi emulation support in your
kernel, so that your ide drive will be emulated as a scsi drive for
use with cdrecord.

Actually, the latest versions do have EIDE support. Having said that though, using IDE-SCSI emulation is probably better.

Is there any good resources that I could consult on setting up ide-SCSI
emulation? I want to set up my burner under linux.
