I would like to install Speakup on Ubuntu Edgy, but every date I pick
from CVS fails. Does anyone know a revision date that will work with
the 2.6.17 kernel from Ubuntu?

Thanks,
Lorenzo

Speakup is already in the Edgy kernel. However, it is built as modules.
If you want to compile it into the kernel, apt-get install the
linux-source-2.6.17 package, and rebuild.

Thanks very much. I thought I had seen somewhere that Speakup was in
the Edgy kernel, but I thought I was remembering something wrong when
speechd-up installed a package called kernel-patch-speakup. I'm
guessing it was just a recommend rather than a dependency since I used
aptitude and it sometimes likes to install recommends. Well, sudo
modprobe speakup_sftsyn gave me no trouble at all, so I won't need to
rebuild the kernel. It's great to have a distro that makes everything
so easy and still lets me do the down and dirty stuff too if I want. It
looks like Ubuntu will be going on my tower also now that I have found
out how easy it is to use. Debian with a generous helping of frosting.
Sweet! Thank you Ubuntu!

Hi, yes, it is a nicely put together system; it'll be nice to see
this one grow.

Marcel

That answers one of my questions in my questions about orca posting. One of
the problem with having the list on digest, I am not always up to date with
the latest comments.

Hi.

You don't need to rebuild your kernel with speakup on Ubuntu. Speakup
is already part of the kernel. It is compiled as modules, but it is
there.

Cool! You can thank Luke for pushing speakup in Ubuntu and Ben, our
kernel maintainer, for integrating the patches.

We could still use some community help to make it even easier to use
though (I'm actually not quite sure what is needed here).
