Hi everyone.  What is the better player for cd usage for linux in 
slackware 10 and where can you find it?  I am asking for a friend!

I am not sure if mplayer can play CD's, I would guess it would, it seems to 
play all types of media. If you want a tgz package then you can find it at 
www.linuxpackages.net. You may also need to install the lame decoder which 
you can also get the tgz package from the same site.

Unless things have changed since Slackware 9, it should come with a 
command-line player called workbone.  It's nice and easy to use imho.

Mplayer will play cds, but it's somewhat complex to install as a basic 
package, and a bit big if you just want to play cds.

Slackware comes with a console based program spacifically for playing cd's 
called workbone.  I find that I mute speakup in whatever console I use it 
in as it gets chatty with the track number it plays, but it's easy to use, 
and it's probably already there.
