Has anyone been able to trick any of the speakup serial drivers into
talking to the triple talk? I'd be curious to know it might be done,
given that there is no proper driver for the device.

Do you mean the internal TripleTalk, in which case I'm sorry I can't help.
I got an external one a few months ago, and only had to connect it to the
port where the DoubleTalk LT had been connected; it worked and works fine.

Actually I meant the external one. That is great news. I have one
sitting here which I have not yet tried, and that gives me
encouragement.

Yeah, I use a tripletalk external too. The only problem is that it takes
about 1 minute to initialize. You get messages scrolling on the screen
"timed out waiting for input" or something like that. But eventually it
comes up.
I just used it today with a speakup enabled knoppix CD to rescue somebody's
files off their crashed Windows PC. Boot knoppix, 'echo ltlk >
/proc/speakup/synth_name', mount /dev/hda1, a couple of gzip and scp
commands later and they had all their files back.
budda-bing, budda-boom!

If you use a standard serial cable and the serial port on the
tripletalk, you can use the ltlk driver and it works flawlessly unless
it is an older early model. If you should have one of those all you
need do is download an update and then you're laughing. I find it's
more responsive than a litetalk.

What is the difference between TripleTalk External and DoubleTalk
LT? They sound the same (using RCSystems DoubleTalk chip) the
TripleTalk is just more expensive.

I think the TripleTalk's a little faster. Also, though as far as I know
there are still no drivers for causing it to speak via USB, it can at least
keep its battery charged via USB.

The trippletalk is the newer moddle, and supports USB. (not under Linux
though) The RC systems doubletalk internal and external, as well as the
litetalk have been discontinued I believe.
