Hello,
I'm working on switching to linux at least part-time, and have a few questions.
First, I've thought about using emacs or pico for code, has anyone found a way to handle python indentations? Can Speakup be made to announce them?
Second, I'm using mplayer for my media, because cdcd only seemed to be for cds, and when I lower the volume it lowers the speakup volume too, which makes it a bit hard because I had music on terminal two and book on term three, with other work on the first console, so I could just use screen to manage that. Aside from the long explaination, it seems when I turn down the volume on the media player, the master volume goes down, too. Is there a way to make it where they have separate volume settings so that it won't affect speakup?
Thanks,
Tyler Littlefield

Hi. Try adding
softvol=1
to your ~/.mplayer/config file.
That should tell mplayer to use the soft mixer instead of the hardware mixer.

For coding in python, use the numpad-8 key twice in quick succession to
announce the position where the first non-whitespace char starts.
I use joe as the text editer to write the code, and it has a configuration
that knows its python if the extention is .py.
That setup with speakup works well for me.

I'm on a laptop, but I believe there is something similar. Will speakup automatically announce the indent level? having to hit f8 on every line is rather inconveniant.

If you're familiar with emacs, consider checking out emacspeak as
well. I hear it has a good python editing mode that works well for
the blind.

I'm not, but if it works with python it's my dream editor. I like edsharp, but i don't like being teathered to windows to use it.
