Hi,
As part of catdoc, there is a program called catppt which sometimes work
to give you the power point information.
It does not keep formatting and sutch, but at least, you can mostly get to
the info.

One possible route might be to ask for the PowerPoint to be exported
as PDF for you. Whether Microsoft's PDF export utility makes
particularly accessible is another matter, but there are PDF to text
tools around for Linux. It's not exactly a perfect solution, but it
may get you going.

Not with Speakup, but you should have some level of success using Orca
and Open Office Impress. Please note that accessibility to PowerPoint is
problematic at best. The technical committees in charge of the ODF
protocols used by Open Office are working to improve that. But, of
course, this will only improve the odf files, and not Microsoft's Power
Point files, for the usual proprietary versus open source reasons.

Thank you to everyone who has answered this question. I will try out
those options (particularly things like ppthtml and catppt). How well
does Orca actually work with impress? Sometimes these GUI apps can be
more hassle than they are worth.
