How can I change the softsynth used for Speakup? I made the mistake of
using the same one, Festival, for both Speakup and Orca, and now when I
start Speakup, I kill the voice for Orca. So how can I fix this?

As I wrote in another thread on this list recently, It should work if
you use Speech Dispatcher both with Orca and Speakup. Speech Dispatcher
will handle speech from both clients for you. Problems may arise when
you try to use one synthesizer through two different speech systems
(Speech Dispatcher and Gnome Speech).

Hmm...Orca doesn't give me speech-dispatcher as an option though; is there
something I need to do to get Orca to recognize speech-dispatcher?

Why don't you use Orca with Espeak? When you use Feisty, you must not
install it, because it comes with Feisty and Orca. That can avoid your
problem with Orca's silence.

I'm using edgy now actually; I haven't upgraded because I don't want to
have to make *another* big bunch of back-ups, and re-get all the apps I've
put on here; it would be probably about the 3rd time or more in a year. I
did install espeak on my system though, but Orca doesn't see it.

You will need Speech Dispatcher 0.6.2 and a recent Orca version
(preferably the latest SVN). See
