Hi,
a colleague of mine wants to try out Brltty under debian.
His serial braille display does not respond to anything being echoed to
it.
>From the side of the PC everything looks as if it is working, no error
message or hang or such.
The physical port is working as he can use his braille display from
Windows on the same machine.
Are there any drivers that should be loaded to make this work?
TIA, Willem

I think we really need more information to answer this. What display is he
using? What version of brltty is he using--is it the debian brltty package
or one from the brltty site? What command is your friend using to start
brltty or what configuration choices did your friend make when installing
it?

It is the Debian package of brltty.
After installation which also do configuration, he starts with
The command brltty
without any options.
It is the current version coming with Debian, not sure exactly.

Try starting brltty with some options, e.g. the -b option with the braille
driver (for my alva it is al), or the -d option to specify the port. Have
you tried libbraille, if that works, then brltty can use libbraille (well at
some of the latest versions of brltty, not sure about the debian package).

Look in /etc/brltty.conf, check that.
I think that by default brltty looks on a usb port for the braille display.

What braille display is being used? Is the command right? Do you have the
right braille display keyword? Are you specifying the right port?
