Alsa-and-More Trebble, with Speakup?

Well, we upgraded to FC5, however, running an external U S B creative mp3 sound 
card, we see no settings in alsamixer for increasing the highs or trebble.  We 
even looked in the graphical desktop, but no more options.  While in windows I 
can have a plugin in winamp which does improve the frequency response.  So, 
back in linux, we install zinf  but no improvements.
So are their any commandline speech friendly tools I can add to increase the 
trebble?
I searched several sites but only found some gtk packages, which I guess won't 
help?
Thanks in advance for any tips, links, or direct packages.

Make sure you have amixer installed and use that.
It is a bit of a pain but normally show all controls to the sound card.

Does the particular card actually have treble and other EQ controls built 
in? Or are those windows controls just software ones? So is a software EQ 
required?

I just bought this particular Soundblaster mp3 card last week.  There are no
bass or trebble controls on the card using either alsamixer or rexima.  It looks
like a software eq is needed for this one, assuming there even is such a thing.
I also noticed that alsamixer seems to mess up some controls on this one so that
when you set the record volume of the mic you can't seem to change it if you
want the mic to not come through the speakers or headphones.  Maybe someone can
help me with this one.

I do not know the card, but in general I would say to try turning capture 
off when you do not want microphone input.

The problem is that I do want microphone input, but I don't want to hear
the output.  Unfortunately, once I save the volume for microphone input
and then mute the microphone output to the speakers/headphones, I can't
seem to change the volume for input without somehow turning off
microphone input altogether with no way to get it back without totally
reconfiguring the card.

Problem getting loaded up with fedora core 5!

Hi All,

Any help with the below would be great.
I added an entry into my "stab file" while in root. It was to activate a usb
floppy drive. Now I can no longer boot up normally into linux but am told I
have a file system error and I can hear  the usb floppy drive being
activated. I think fedora is looking for a linux file system on a floppy
disk. It is giving me choices to do a repair of the file system or just
reboot which only brings me back round to the same situation again. I really
need to edit the stab file but can't get access to it even though I am in a
kind of root terminal. Good old speakup is still up and running however so
at least I have speech to do what I need.However I only have read only
permissions on anything in this area so can't do much in the way of changing
anything.

Here is the line I entered in the stab file:
/dev/sda    /mnt/usbfd       auto            noauto,user 0   0

I know I goofed on this one,*smiles*.

Any help would be appreciated.

At the grub prompt do:

a s

which will take you to single user mode where you can work on things. If
that fails for the same reason, do 'i' during startup to get the
opportunity to say "yes" and "no" to each module before it's loaded. You
would say "no" to usb, of course.
You'll have to be crafty to get the 'i' in on time. There's only a short
window. I'd start tapping that key every few seconds around the time
speakup starts, and keep pressing 8 on the numeric to see where you are.

Hi, just a thought: could you grab grml, boot into it using the 
speakup options?  It should mount your filesystem, allowing you to 
edit fstab.  I know grml is Debian based, but it might still work.

Will Speakup work for Fedora core 4
