Hi,
Why can i not paste into a read statment in bash?
If i do:
read varname
from a bash prompt, the terminal expects input.
when i try to paste a previously marked area, it acts asif nothing were
marked. Is there a way that i can change the read statement so that paste
will work?
TIA
Willem

Are you sure that it actually didn't paste anything? I've seen some
instances in telnet sessions where hitting speakup with slash just
said "paste", and it looked like the paste never happened when you
reviewed the screen, but when I then hit enter, I found that the
pasted command or whatever actually did get acted upon.

You are correct.
The pasted data is not echoed to the screen, but actually goes into the
variable.
Thanks for pointing this out.
