Just a quick question:
are there any sound editing programs that work in the text console,
particularly slackware packages?
I found several that require x and while I know most everything that is
done in the gui can be done via a console, I haven't found what I'm
looking for in any of the instructional materials I've been reading...
Thanks all
Cheereo!

I don't know about sound editing specifically but there are a ton of text
based programs for audio on www.linux-sound.org.

Absolutely. ecasound is chief among them, I suppose. You can do a lot
with it. There's also Chuck Hallenbeck's wave editor, wedit:

What are you looking to do?

In addition to the already mentioned editors there is a simple curses
based cut and paste editor I've rewritten in cvs under the module name
bsound. Nothing fancy but it works for my simple needs.
